The Philippe-Pinel Institute of Montreal has always sparked much curiosity and fascination since its foundation in 1970. This maximum-security psychiatric hospital houses patients who have committed serious and terrible crimes, even murder. Being considered a threat to themselves and others, these patients receive special care that will perhaps allow them, one day, to return to a normal life. Psychiatrists, therapists, nurses, criminologists and psychologists all team up to help them through their long and difficult rehabilitation. This docu-series offers an intimate journey within the walls of the Pinel Insititute. We discover the day-to-day life of a staff that dedicates its time to both their patients’ well-being and to a difficult cause: understanding mental illness.
