What is a cult? A guru? A disciple? Secte Mode D’emploi seeks answers to these sometime overused questions, answers that go beyond prejudice and preconceived ideas.
This series of three episodes examines the inner workings of a cult and its principal players. Cults share many common characteristics which go from commercial assets, recruitment techniques, to the isolation of members for the profit of one or a small group of leaders. Cult leaders or gurus also belong to a type, and the series draws the portrait of the typical cult leader. Secte Mode D’emploi investigates how these groups function, the motivations of their leaders, and the addictive effect of cult rituals that occupy the mind so as to shield it from doubt. The series goes behind the scenes to demystify a world that is very difficult to understand, and nearly impossible to penetrate.
